Lincoln” to “Dr Wm Baylies, Dighton”, “The Secretary of the treasury of the United States has requested…information from time to time of the several kinds of manufacture carried on in this State”, with particular attention to the “manufacture of Cannons, Arms & Gunpowder”, “in the Counties of Bristol, Plymouth and Barnstable”; along with a response Letter dated “Dighton Sept 14th 1790”, regarding manufactures carried on in the County of Bristol, “there are ten Forges for the making of bar-iron in this County.”, “estimated at three hundred Tons”, with a breakdown of cost and profit, (from an estate which included papers from Benjamin Lincoln of Hingham, Massachusetts).
