Split bamboo or split reed, hoop handle, (1″ h, 3/8″ dia), given as a gift in 1936 to the consignor by her Aunt, Sister Alice Miriam Howland, of the Canterbury Shakers, “She worked on Shaker sweaters and made many of the fancy work items sold in the Shaker Store”, Eldress Bertha Lindsay quoted in “The World of Shaker”, Vol. III, Issue IV, Fall 1973, p. 1; along with three copies of photographs of Sister Alice with her brother and niece (c. 1940), 1964 New York World’s Fair, and in the kitchen of her niece in 1964 after a trip to the Bronx Zoo; also other papers and typewritten letter describing the gift basket, and Aunt Sister Alice Howland.
