Black ash splint, with lengthwise carved hoop handle, lined with mattress ticking and used to carry and store kindling for stoves, “1” in black paint probably indicates a room number, (breaks and some splint loss on bottom), “X” carved on top of handle, old tag at handle reads “Basket made and used by Shakers of Canterbury, N.H.”, c. 1830-40, 18 1/2″ h (to top of handle), 20″ l, 16″ d.
