Mid 19th c. worldly dome top trunk, leather and decorated oil cloth, and round brass head tacks, initialed on top “P.A.B.” on a paper label, and labeled (partially torn) inside lid “Paulina…Bates, Watervliet (West Albany) N.Y. given to Car…1930″, missing hinges (8″ h), 17″ l, 10 1/2″ d; Pine, original orange painted finish, molded edged lid with steel hinges, nailed construction, 10″ h, 13 1/2″ w, 12” d, (passed down through the family of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Belfit, who bought directly from the Shakers at Mt. Lebanon, NY).

Sister Bates wrote the Divine Book of Holy and Eternal Wisdom, 1849, written during the “Era of Spirit Manifestations”, and also a very popular Shaker song “Come to Zion” in 1864.
