Walnut, original varnish finish, finely chamfered vertical side posts, lambs tongue carved, circular turned discs (5” dia) holding a roll of newsprint column that can be read vertically with a turning knob on the right side of the piece, the newsprint has been carefully glued together and held with pins to keep from unraveling, appears to be missing a small horizontal receiving bar above, small horizontal bars are through mortised, Enfield, CT, c. 1870, purchased by Howard and Flo Fertig in 1980 from Hazel Hayes of Connecticut who said it was used in the Infirmary, 17 1/2” l, 5” w, (ex. Hazel Hayes; Flo and Howard Fertig collection).
Note: We have never seen this form in Shaker and consider it extremely rare.
