Poplar and pine, original dark red painted finish, brass hinged lift lid opening to sectioned compartments that held medicine bottles, original Shaker tape held lid in place, stenciled in black under lid “INFIRMARY ONLY, S.F.” (South Family, New Lebanon, NY), dovetailed case, brass handles on side, dovetailed drawer underneath with compartments, opened by pulling a hidden brass rod next to the lock, Shaker label under the pull-out tray “Shaker Preparation…Imperial Rose Balm…Diseases of the Skin…Prepared by the Shakers, New Lebanon, Columbia Co…”, initialed on the drawer bottom “D.B.”, c. 1850, (note: a rare medicine carrying box from New Lebanon South Family), overall good condition with in-use wear, 11 1/2″ h, 16″ w, 11″ d.
