Highly figured maple in tiger and bird’s-eye, early stained varnish finish, tall elegant finials, four arched slats, curvilinear arms, light mustard color taped seats, minor imperfections, Mt. Lebanon, NY, c. 1840, (note: The makers chose the best quality of wood, figured and bird’s-eye maple, indicating that these two chairs were made for the Elders and Eldresses at New Lebanon, and two of the finest we’ve seen), 15 1/2″ seat h, 45 1/2″ overall h, (ex. Doug Towle collection, sold WHA 9/4/05, lots 170 and 172; ex. Kippy Stroud collection).
