Exceptional silk needlework and watercolor, Mourning picture under an englomise glass, signed in gilt “Wrought by Elizabeth Turner” at bottom, on stone printed “Sacred to the memory of Wm Turner, died July 28, 1808, aged 39”, depicting the widow and four children on the right, with a church in the background, (the widows veil is extremely well executed), some minor tears in sky with light water stain, carved pine frame painted in gold, “possibly worked at Hannah Spofford’s school in Charlestown, MA.”, conserved at Textile Conservation Center – American Textile History Museum, Lowell, MA, 2004, with report accompanying the lot, 25″ x 26 3/4″ (sight), (deaccessioned from the Mass. Society of Mayflower Descendants).
