Lot 165: Early 20th c. Roomsize Hooked Rug

Dated “1916” at top and bottom, with a central motif of the Canadian flag on left and the flag of Great Britain on right, a geometric background of browns and blacks, with a coat of arms on either side, shows a lion and fleur-de-lis, bordered top and bottom with oak leaves and branches, shows some minor moth wear but overall fair to good condition, 6′ 4″ x 7′ 10″. [Note: Originally commissioned by the Garrison family of Greenwich, CT, for use in their Adironack Camp. It commemorates the year 1916 that Canada entered World War I. It’s the same year the Garrison’s son joined the war effort enlisting in the Canadian armed forces.]
