Important oil on canvas, portrait of a three-masted American Packet ship “the Tuscarora”, at full sail in a severe storm, lost at sea near Cadiz, Spain in 1873, initialed mid-right “J.H.” for Joseph Heard (Liverpool, England, 1799-1859), (note: in the 19th c. the ship became famous due to the Captain’s heroic endeavors), purchased by Dr. Hollander from Marine Arts in Salem, MA 45 years ago, very minor in-painting, gilded frame with titled nameplate, (includes a box of ephemera relating to the Tuscarora), 20″ x 30″ (sight), (ex. Dr. Oscar and Lois Hollander collection, Falmouth, MA).
