Harpoon with what appears to be original braided retrieving rope, bronze repair at the back end, these irons were developed between 1835 and 1845, and were also used in the catching of porpoises, from a Rhode Island collection, (note: similar grommet iron pictured in Lytle’s book Harpoons and Other Whale Craft), 37 1/2″ l.
