Lot 15: Important Oval Top Candlestand

Late 18th/early 19th c. New England, Hepplewhite, tip-top, mahogany, oval top candlestand, with even pedestal, branchwood line inlay around the circumference of the top, central oval inlaid cartouche depicting a Federal style eagle and red and black shield, eagle holding an arrow and sheath of wheat in its talons, with a crest of 13 stars over 5 stars (Louisiana was the 18th state admitted to the Union April 30, 1812), all on finely shaped tripod legs, lifted on slightly beveled and canted spade feet, very minor repairs where a leg attaches to shaft, appears to be the original varnish finish, 29″ h, 16″ w (top), 23 1/2″ l, 42″ h (tipped up), (ex.
