Byrd on polar expeditions, Byrd named a mountain in Antarctica Mount Bumstead, the sun compass was a mounted watch above the face of a standard compass, the watch had a single hand which completed a rotation every 24 hours, a regular compass would not work in the arctic, original glass dome, mounted on 6 1/2″ dia metal plate, 4 3/4″ h.
