Maple, original light ochre stained finish with patina, exceptional turned handle with interior grooved grinding ball, two-piece footed bulbous base threaded to accept the mechanical top section, c. 1850, (note: an ingenious Shaker constructed grinder, possibly used for peppercorns, nutmeg, etc.; the shaped and turned handle is true Shaker master work), 3 3/4″ h, 2 1/4″ dia.
